“Do we become who we are in spite of our past, or because of it?”
Concerto for Two Brothers, a feature-length documentary, is a rare look at the personal lives of two symphony musicians who grew up under the control of a brilliant but domineering father.
The story of Charles and Christopher Rex is a testament to the healing power of music and the bond between two brothers — a connection that helped them to survive and transcend a childhood filled with emotional turmoil. Today, they are both highly accomplished symphony musicians. Christopher Rex is the principal cellist of the Atlanta Symphony, the Artistic Director of the world-renown Amelia Island Chamber Orchestra Festival, and the Principal Cello Chair at Mercer College, in Macon, Georgia. Charles Gordon Rex, Jr., is a first violinist with the New York Philharmonic, and performs as a soloist with orchestras across the country.
The project is in post-production, with a projected completion date of end of year 2009. During the production phase, we traveled to five states and filmed a variety of symphony and chamber orchestras and ensemble groups for the documentary. The rich musical tapestries woven with a compelling dramatic story, will make “Concerto for Two Brothers” an important addition to documentaries about classical musicians, and will stand out as a strong artistic work in its own right.
